Melody W. Nelson began her music training at home, where music was a focal point in her upbringing. She entered formal training at the age of eight, after having already learned to read music and play simple Bach Minuets. In high school, she accompanied singing groups and became involved in musical theater. Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, she moved to Salt Lake City in 1973 and gained popularity as a private music teacher where she continued her formal training as a kindergarten teacher and private tutor for Challenger Schools. Her Suzuki piano training began at the University of Utah in 1980, and in 1986, she began training in Suzuki classical guitar. Melody has served as guitar vice-president for the Suzuki Association of Utah, and as manager of the Suzuki Scholarship Boutique. Melody holds a degree in Music Therapy from the University of the Pacific, and is currently working as music therapist for Music To Grow On, in Sacramento CA. She teaches classical guitar and piano, is married to Richard K. Nelson, and is the mother of seven children, and eight perfect grand-daughters.
